Service was good considering how busy it was. Stopped in with a friend for a beer and late lunch. We both ordered the Sawbuck's burger with yam fries and it was really good. The yam fries were very tasty. My visits are always for lunch and without exception I find the lunch fare outstanding! No interest at all by server when reported.
The icing on the cake here is that all the staff and the owner are super friendly, professional and care about their patrons, whether they are regulars or brand new to the pub. Terrible service, rude condescending waitress. First visit since they had there fire and have done a great job of remodeling. It has an amazing combination of great music that plays all day long, and incredible daily food and drink specials, Every entrée on Sawbucks menu that I have tried is 1. I am still in shock. We were excited because it was 2-4-1 ribs. I recommend checking out the daily specials for drinks and meals.
This pub has talent coming through its doors from the time it opens til the time it closes. I don't know about this place. This pub is better than any pub downtown. I would rather have fewer fries that were good, not some leftovers. Why Hire Almost Famous Entertainment? It has an amazing combination of great music that plays all day long, and incredible daily food and drink specials, Every entrée on Sawbucks menu that I have tried is 1. Crappy reheated calamari rings and nachos that didn't have very much cheese. Had there Steak Sandwich with Fries and two drafts of Coors Beer.
I'd give it less if I could- which is too bad because the atmosphere is fun but the unprofessionalism and downright lack of manners any of the staff have here is downright embarrassing. Host to ma went on Friday Feb 24 for beer and food. Not quite a dive bar but being in there definitely reminded me how close to Surrey we were. Other than that it was a very enjoyable experience and I will return again in the near future to try them again. If you are single and looking to meet new people this place is it! Try it and you decide for yourself. I always loved this pub. This pub has talent coming through its doors from the time it opens til the time it closes.
Combine fresh food with fine beverages, warm and friendly service, live music and entertainment to create a classic neighborhood pub meeting place. Great food and drink specials all week, love the 2 for 1 rib nights! Great value for the money, and football on the big screen with loads of yummy chicken wings and imported beer is the most fun. The service was quick, speedy, attentive but not too over the top and pleasant. I ordered the Beef stir fry with rice, and my friend had the prime rib that was on special. I can remember when it first opened in the 80's to the changes it has gone through to today.
A lot of others apparently share my opinion as tables are often at a premium during the lunch hour. The only negative was that the pub was very crowded and it was hard to find a seat. Appies were expensive and were not good. But a word of advice for management- if your staff can't respectfully deal with drunk people, maybe they shouldn't be working the Saturday mornings night shift. Great little neighbourhood pub and eatery. They give a large boneless braised short rib, on a pile of yummy mashed potatoes, with grilled zucchini and red peppers all around it and smothered with brown gravy! Some of the best yam fries I've ever had and the portion was huge I couldn't even finish everything on my plate, a rarity for me indeed! It was closed for 6 months because of a fire and we went back to visit the first week it was opened. Kudo's to the kitchen staff! And they need better drinks.
To her Browns Social House is just ok,Washington Avenue Grill is just ok,well as luck will have it I remember Sawbucks Pub,she was game. Service was good and friendly staff but food seem to taste better before they had there fire. Pop seemed off and beer is just ok. With 17 beers on tap and an array of fine wines and spirits, there's something here to quench everyone's thirst. So much so that we try a different restaurant each Wednesday. The food looked good all around and my nachos were great.
Will not be giving my business here in the future. A busy, local hang out that seems to keep the locals coming back with very basic, if not crude entertainment. Prices seemed to be fair but the old atmosphere at Sawbuck's seemed to be better. This pub is the complete package, the real deal. If you just want to relax with friends or escape for a couple of hours this is your dream pub. If this place doesn't improve it'll lose a lot of middle -class customers. Also the poutine is fantastic, if you ask me.
Lots of our friends had different dishes, and they all said it was good. The inside hasn't changed much though except there isn't a pool table. Food was okay but nothing that I would recommend. Pub looks like it has been there for a long time. Microwaved bowl of meat to throw on top when nachos were cold by then. If you are single and looking to meet new people this place is it! Get a couple interesting draught beers and look into the pop thing please. Love going back home to White Rock and always make a stop at Sawbucks when I'm in town.
